LA's second-ever Homegrown signing, Villarreal already boasts extensive MLS experience at a relatively young age. A promising attacking player, Villarreal saw his playing time dip in 2016 and 2017 after a breakout 2015 campaign and will look to re-establish himself as a go-to contributor with his new club.
INTERNATIONAL: Played for the US Under-18 national team at the 2011 Milk Cup in Northern Ireland in July, tallying one assist while starting all three games at the tournament. He was called into the U-23 national team in November 2011 for a camp in Germany, playing in a friendly with Azerbaijan. He trained with the U-20 National Team in Florida prior to the start of the Galaxy preseason in January 2012. He also participated with the US U-23s in the 2016 Olympic cycle.
OUTSIDE MLS: Villarreal spent time in 2014 on loan with Cruz Azul in Mexico.
