MLS clubs to volunteer over 84,000 hours in Greener Goals Week of Service

They might be rivals on weekends, but for one whole week MLS clubs will be joining forces in defending a common color: green.


For the first time, the league’s charitable arm, MLS WORKS, will bring together all 20 teams and league staff for over 84,000 hours of volunteer work as part of the first-ever Greener Goals Week of Service from April 18-23 in the lead-up to Earth Day.


Beginning on April 18, over 1,000 league and club staff members will take part in community initiatives and environmental awareness and educational campaigns which support and promote the importance of environmental sustainability for a cleaner and healthier world.


Here’s the full schedule of club activities this week (all times local): 


CHICAGO FIRE
April 20: Working to beautify the West Pullman neighborhood (8:30am-3pm)


COLORADO RAPIDS
April 21: Planting tree, laying pathways and edging plots at Johnson Elementary School (9am-12pm & 1pm-4pm)


COLUMBUS CREW SC
April 22: Hudson St. area cleanup in the South Hudson Street neighborhood (10am-2pm)


FC DALLAS
April 20: Garden maintenance at the Frisco Family Services Community Garden (1pm-4pm)


D.C. UNITED
April 22: Designing a learning garden for students at the Ketchum Elementary School (8:30am-2:30pm)


HOUSTON DYNAMO
April 20: Dynamo staff and volunteers to help sort food for shelters and flood victims at Houston Food Bank (2pm-4pm)


LA GALAXY
April 22: Volunteering in park beautification project at LA City Park (10a-1:30pm)


MONTREAL IMPACT
April 18: Sorting and distributing food at Moisson Montreal (12:30pm-3pm)


NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION
April 19: Revs players to help with farm work at White Barn Farm (2pm-3:30pm)
April 20: Assist with clean-up, mulching, planting and weeding along the Charles River (1pm-4pm)


NEW YORK CITY FC
April 22: Helping in the wetlands of Randall’s Island (9am-12pm)


NEW YORK RED BULLS
April 21: Weeding bike parks and trails at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ (9am-12pm)


ORLANDO CITY
April 23: Creation of a community garden at Rock Lake Community (8am-3pm)


PHILADELPHIA UNION
April 20: Planting and landscaping at the Boys and Girls Club of Chester and cleaning grounds around Talen Energy Stadium (2pm)


PORTLAND TIMBERS
April 19: Cleaning donated bikes to be given away through the Community Cycling Center (2pm-5pm)
April 21: Restoring the Forest Park Wildwood Trail near the Springville trailhead (9am-12pm)


REAL SALT LAKE
April 19: Hosting a Nutrition Assembly as well as greening the playground at Granger Elementary School (10am-2pm)


SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES
April 22: Green reading sessions for children at City of San Jose library (3:30pm)


SEATTLE SOUNDERS
April 22: Building garden beds, recycling bins and removing weeds on campus of B.F. Day Elementary School (1pm-4pm)


SPORTING KANSAS CITY
April 20: Hosting annual “Recycle Your Game” clinic for 75 local youth with new and gently used soccer gear donations made at home games (afternoon)
April 23: Cleaning and beautification projects at Swope Park


TORONTO FC
April 21: Cleaning up and gardening to refresh area around Yonge Street Mission buildings (12pm-3pm)


VANCOUVER WHITECAPS
April 18: Shoreline cleanup with the City of Vancouver (4pm-5:30pm)
