Voted MLS Player of the Month

– Toronto FC midfielder Alejandro Pozuelo was voted the MLS Player of the Month by members of the media for September of the 2020 MLS season.
Pozuelo finished September with four goals and two assists in six matches played, helping Toronto to finish the month with an active four-game unbeaten streak including three wins in that span. The Spaniard leads the league with nine assists to go along with six goals, while his 15 combined goals and assists is the league high.. Toronto is tied for second in the Eastern Conference standings with 28 points (8-2-4 overall record).
Toronto’s unbeaten mark began with a 2-1 road victory over the Montreal Impact on Sept. 9. Pozuelo then scored a goal in the 17
th
minute of Toronto’s 2-2 draw at D.C. United on Sept. 19 (

l), the first of three straight matches in which he found the scoresheet. Toronto would then pull off a dramatic 1-0 victory at New York City FC on Sept. 23 behind a Pozuelo penalty kick goal in the 90

). Pozuelo capped the month with an assist on Jozy Altidore’s 48

) before scoring a goal of his own in the 59

) to help Toronto secure a 3-1 home victory over Supporters’ Shield leading Columbus Crew SC on Sept. 27.
Toronto began the month with back-to-back losses, first a 1-0 home defeat to Montreal on Sept. 1 followed by a 3-2 road loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sept. 5. Against Vancouver, Pozuelo contributed a 25

minute assist on Jonathan Osorio’s goal (
