The Colorado Rapids recently turned down a $3 million transfer offer from an English Championship club for US national team midfielder Kellyn Acosta, according to sources.
American Soccer Now’s Brian Sciaretta reported on Wednesday that the Rapids turned down a “significant bid” for Acosta from an English club.
Acosta was acquired by Colorado last summer in a trade from FC Dallas. The 23-year-old had two goals and three assists in 12 regular-season games with the Rapids; he totaled three goals and five assists in 25 combined appearances between Colorado and Dallas in 2018.
The former FC Dallas academy player took part in the first stage of Gregg Berhalter’s inaugural January camp with the US men’s national team, but he was one of four players sent back to their MLS clubs ahead of Sunday’s friendly against Panama outside Phoenix. He’s currently in preseason camp with Colorado.
