Canada international defender Richie Laryea has signed a new contract with Toronto FC, the club announced Wednesday. Per club policy, terms of the deal werenât disclosed.
Laryea, who spent his first three MLS seasons with Orlando City, has found new life since joining the Reds. Heâs made 43 appearances over the past four-plus seasons, with three goals and three assists spanning the regular season and Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.
âRichie has been terrific since he joined us. He played a valuable role, both for TFC and the Canadian menâs national team last year,â TFC general manager Ali Curtis said of the Toronto native in a team release. âOff the field, Richieâs character and personality is tremendous. He earned this new contract in many ways, and we are excited for him, his family and what he will bring to TFC moving forward.â
Laryea, 25, signed with Toronto in 2019 after impressing during a preseason trial. His career started in midfield, though heâs since shifted to right back under head coach Greg Vanney.
The No. 7 selection in the 2016 SuperDraft, Laryea played college soccer at Akron. Heâs made six appearances with Canadaâs menâs national team, breaking into the squad last September.
