TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Real Salt Lake are part of the sweepstakes for SV Wehen Wiesbaden striker Manuel Schaffler, according to a Saturday report from German outlet Kicker.
According to the report, Schaffler (pictured above, right) is primed for an exit despite being under contract until June 2021 following Wiesbaden's relegation from the 2. Bundesliga. A number of teams have emerged as potential suitors for the 31-year-old forward, with 2. Bundesliga side Hamburger SV and Real Salt Lake alleged to be among them.
Should it come to fruition, it could be a big addition to an RSL attack that could use a carry-the-load No. 9. Despite his club's struggles, Schaffler put up 19 goals in 32 league games last season and has been productive since joining the club in 2016, scoring 79 goals in 140 appearances overall.
Prior to joining Wiesbaden, Schaffler also played in the 2. Bundesliga for Holstein Kiel from 2014-2016, scoring 20 goals in 96 games. He's played his entire pro career to this point in Germany, starting with a 60-match stint with 1860 Munich from 2007-2012 that saw him net five goals.
