TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Rumor
Silly season might be nearing an end, but the offseason rumor mill may have saved its best for last in the form of a coveted Lionel Messi story.
According to a Tuesday report from Radio Continental in Argentina, LA Galaxy head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto reached out to Jorge Messi, the father and agent of Lionel, to gauge his son's future at Barcelona — possibly to plant a seed about Messi making a blockbuster move to MLS.
Obviously, the move didn't come to pass, and the Galaxy eventually signed Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez as their replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but that's the type of ambitious thinking from Schelotto we can all appreciate.
Will the GOAT ever come to MLS? Maybe, maybe not, but we can dream.
