TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The New York Red Bulls have acquired forward Fabio Roberto Gomes Netto on loan from Brazilian Serie B side Oeste FC through June 2021 with a purchase option, the club announced Friday.
The 23-year-old will occupy an international roster slot when the move is completed upon receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.
“We’re pleased to welcome Fabio,” head of sport Kevin Thelwell said in a release. “Fabio has a strong physical profile, excellent work ethic, and he’s shown that he can score and assist while playing on his own, and with another forward. We’re happy to add Fabio to our roster and look forward to integrating him into our team.”
During two seasons with Oeste FC, Fabio has scored 20 goals and dished out two assists in 47 games. He was the second-leading scorer in Serie B during the 2019 season with 15 goals through 32 matches.
Fabio also spent the 2020 season on loan with Albirex Niigata, a second division team in Japan where he tallied five goals and three assists in 19 games.
“I am very pleased with Fabio's agreement,” head coach Gerhard Struber said in a release. “He is very hard working, which we like in all our forwards for our style of play and is impressive with his physical play and finishing. Fabio already has international experience and has scored decisive goals in strong leagues. We now want to integrate him into our team and our style of play.”
The 6-foot-4 forward joins Tom Barlow and Brian White as RBNY options up top, with those two domestic options progressing through reserve side New York Red Bulls II before getting their MLS shot. This is also RBNY’s third South American offseason addition after they previously signed center back Andres Reyes and midfielder Wikelman Carmona.
