TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Trade
Houston Dynamo FC have acquired midfielder Derrick Jones from Nashville SC in exchange for $250,000 in General Allocation Money, the clubs announced Thursday.
In a separate move, Houston also sent the No. 3 overall selection in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for the No. 6 overall selection and $200,000 in General Allocation Money.
Jones, 23, made 18 appearances (nine starts) in Nashville's successful expansion campaign. Naturally a defensive midfielder, Jones spent time playing in a more attacking role for Nashville as well.
âWe are pleased to add a midfielder to our roster like Derrick who will bring athleticism, mobility and energy to our team,â Dynamo SVP & GM Matt Jordan said in a club statement. âHe is a player weâve targeted for quite some time and someone who our staff has worked with in the past.â
Jones is a former US youth international who worked under Dynamo head coach Tab Ramos with the US U-20 side, including at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
âDerrick is a player I know very well," Ramos said in a release. "Although he is young, he already has four years of experience in the league and knows what itâs like to be a starter for a playoff team. He has a big career ahead of him and we feel fortunate and excited that it will be here in Houston.â
Jones is a product of the Philadelphia Union's academy. He was traded to Nashville in 2019.
