Charlotte FC fans, take a glimpse into the future.
Sergio Ruiz, the club’s first-ever signing, scored a banger for UD Las Palmas Sunday in a 2-1 win over CD Leganes.
The 26-year-old midfielder, on loan with the Liga2 side, made a rampaging run from the other side of the midfield stripe and, without a defender closing him down, continued his advancement before unleashing a low blast from well outside the 18-yard box.
The 63rd-minute goal, his third of the season, broke a scoreless stalemate and earned him Man of the Match honors.
Ruiz has three goals and two assists in 17 league appearances this season. He joined Las Palmas on loan on Sept. 3, a little more than a month after signing with Charlotte following four years at Racing de Santander where he was team captain and scored eight goals in 127 appearances.
